PFF thinks Panthers should trade for Browns QB Baker Mayfield

The question of "will they or won't they" between the Carolina Panthers and Baker Mayfield is getting as old as Rachel Greene and Ross Gellar. So, could they please end it already?

Focus on Pro Football Doug Kyed, an NFL writer, expressed this opinion when he called for the trade of Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield to Charlotte

Kyed sees the former No. 1 overall pick as his "one trade or free agency acquisition before training camp" for the Panthers. He thinks he might give the team a better future than they presently have in 2022.

Although it's unclear what the Panthers would do with Sam Darnold if they acquired Mayfield, Kyed notes that acquiring the disgruntled Browns quarterback would give Carolina a considerably greater upside this season.

Despite battling injuries in 2021, Mayfield managed to earn an 87.5 offensive overall rating in his first three NFL seasons. His greatest alternatives are the Seattle Seahawks, Carolina Panthers, and Cleveland Browns. He deserves to start someplace.

Without a doubt, Mayfield is a much more seasoned player than Darnold, Carolina's anticipated starter and fellow 2018 draftee. Although statistics can only provide a partial picture of an event, Mayfield has outperformed Darnold in practically every available data

With the exception of four fewer interceptions, Baker outperforms Sam in a number of categories, including completion rate (61.1 to 59.8), passing yards (14,125 to 10,624), touchdowns (92 to 54), and passer rating (87.8 to 76.9), to mention a few.

But how far away are the Panthers from creating room for the displeased passer? Not that far, according to a recent report from FOX Charlotte's Will Kunkel.

The organisation is "no closer to a deal" for either Mayfield or San Francisco's Jimmy Garoppolo, according to a tweet from Kunkel last week. They might be off by a few million dollars right now.

When the rain starts to fall, we'll see if the Panthers are going to be there for you, Baker.
