LeBron James has asked President Joe Biden to bring Brittney Griner home from Russia, where she has been held for more than a hundred days. Griner is a star in the WNBA.

"We all need to work together to do everything we can to get BG home quickly and safely! Together, as athletes, we have a louder voice, "He sent a tweet to his 51.4 million followers on Sunday night.

In the same tweet, the star of the Los Angeles Lakers also shared a letter that said Griner was in a Russian prison with "inhumane conditions" and couldn't talk to her family and friends.

"BG's incarceration must be resolved for the good of all sports and the safety of all Americans travelling abroad.

The US government must deal with this issue of human rights right away and do whatever it takes to get Brittney back home "the letter kept going.

"Join us in asking President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris to bring Brittney home quickly and safely by taking action today," the letter said.

It also included a link to a Change.org petition with more than 300,000 signatures calling for Griner's safe return.

Since February 17, when customs officials at a Moscow airport said they found cannabis oil in her luggage, the WNBA player has been held in Russia.

She was in Russia competing for the European powerhouse club UMMC Ekaterinburg, as she has done for the past eight years.

Last month, the State Department called Griner "wrongfully held." One expert said this gives a "clear signal that the US administration doesn't think she's guilty."
