Forbes published a list of the golfers who will earn the most money in 2022 on Friday.

Unsurprisingly, the players at the top of this list are those that left the PGA Tour to play in the new LIV Golf series

A breakaway league funded by billions of cash from Saudi Arabia.

The No. 1 player on this list is 52-year-old golf veteran Phil Mickelson

Who in June inked a contract with the Saudi-backed series worth an estimated $200 million.

With this agreement, Mickelson not only became the highest-paid golfer in the world, but also the highest-paid athlete overall.

International soccer star Leonel Messi ($130 million) was overtaken by Lefty ($138 million) in earnings over the previous year.

In addition, Mickelson's contract with LIV Golf helped him surpass $1 billion in career earnings.

The former PGA Tour pro received harsh criticism for joining LIV Golf.

His bank account has never looked better, despite the fact that his reputation may have suffered.
