Pavel Francouz saved J.T. Compher's penalty on Connor McDavid. Compher silenced Rogers Place and put the Avalanche on the brink of the Stanley Cup Finals.

Compher scored with 7:18 left to give Colorado a 3-2 lead in the Western Conference playoffs.

Compher rushed out of the penalty box, beat Evan Bouchard down the boards, and scored between Mike Smith's legs.

Mikko Rantanen scored an empty-netter with 30 seconds left, and Francouz made 27 saves.

Francouz replaced an injured Darcy Kuemper in Game 1 and made 24 saves in a 4-0 win Thursday for his second playoff shutout. He stopped McDavid to tie Game 3 before Compher scored.

Colorado forward Nathan MacKinnon remarked, "Frankie's quick and made a terrific stop." Resetting after tying it up demonstrates strength.

McLeod knotted the game at 2 on a high-slot snap shot at 7:34 of the third.

Edmonton's McDavid scored after 38 seconds. Smith saved 39.

Edmonton interim coach Jay Woodcroft: "We must win one hockey game."

Colorado is one game away from the Stanley Cup final after Monday's game in Edmonton. The 1996 and 2001 champions.

Gabriel Landeskog, the captain, stated, "A huge triumph, but the job's not done."

When McDavid's goal, Edmonton killed Evander Kane's five-minute penalty for boarding Nazem Kadri 28 seconds later and thwarted another Avalanche power play after Darnell Nurse sent the puck over the glass. Kadri didn't return after Kane's hit.

Jared Bednar ruled out Kadri for the series, if not longer. "Out!" "Bednar. "The hit? It's hockey's deadliest hit."

Colorado's Nichushkin scored on two deflections. His centering pass deflected in off Nurse with 3:48 left in the first. Nichushkin blasted a wrist shot through Bouchard's legs and past Smith at 4:37 of the second.

Val is a big element of our team's offensive and checking games, said Landeskog. "Tonight, he was a force with two important goals for us and did a wonderful job on the forecheck and neutral zone, staying above their top players and not giving them much room.

It's sad, but he's been great for us and keeps getting better. He's a major, vital piece for us.”

Edmonton stopped Colorado's power play with Draisaitl off for high-sticking early in the third.

Only four NHL teams have won a seven-game series after falling behind 3-0. Los Angeles Kings last did it in 2014 versus San Jose.

Smith: "Every play counts." "Winning at this time of year requires extreme desperation." Everyone contributes a little extra.
