Avalanche acquire Alexandar Georgiev from Rangers for draft picks
For a while it seemed inevitable that the New York Rangers would trade the goalkeeper Alexander Georgiev,He did it on Thursday.
Rangers sent Georgiev to the Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche in exchange for a 2022 fifth-round draft pick and a 2023 third-round draft pick.
with Igor Shesterkin With Rangers locked in as a franchise goalkeeper, and Georgiev’s sealing being more than a backup, a trade always seemed the most logical outcome here
especially after Georgiev was headed to restricted free agency this off-season. And a new contract was needed
Rangers pushed the cap and with several major unrestricted free agents to sign, it was only a matter of when and where Georgiev would be on the move.
Georgiev is coming off the 2021–22 season, in which he appeared in 33 games for Rangers, finishing with a .898 save percentage.
He has .908 percent left in 129 career games in five seasons with the Rangers for his career.
Georgiev’s addition also makes it more likely that Colorado will part ways with the 2021-22 starter darcy kumper
The Avalanche acquired Kumper from Arizona earlier this past season for first-round pick and defenseman Conor Timmins
Kumper had an excellent regular season in Colorado but struggled in the playoffs while dealing with some injury issues. Even with the inconsistent postseason
he was still close enough to land a significant contract in free agency and was almost certainly out of Colorado’s price range, as other free agents Colorado still re-enacted. Would like to sign (or replace).
